Juanita began as a self-taught artist and much of what she has learned has come from interaction and observation of other artists. She loves attending workshops that enhance her knowledge of techniques. Often you can find her with a group of other artists exploring and sharing interactive methods.
Juanita primarily works with water-based products on paper. She is intrigued by the surface and textures that can be developed on paper. She attempts painting with the feeling of motion in much of her work. Also the human face and figure is always a favorite of hers. The creative process has always fascinated Juanita. Therefore, painting has opened up a new avenue for her. She says she paints because it frees her and makes her eyes happy.
Juanita is a native of Colorado, born on Boulder St. in Denver. Currently she resides in Wheat Ridge, CO with her husband Chris Pacheco. She earned her BA in Communication/Psychology and a Masters of Special Studies in Applied Communication. After working in Higher Education for 30 years in numerous administrative positions she retired to begin exploring her more artistic side.
In 2011, she was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. Had a double mastectomy then underwent chemo for almost a year. Juanita was limited on what she was able to do. So she decided to turn a negative into a positive and decided to use her time painting as much as possible.
Now she spends between 4-6 hours a day in her studio. Cancer is in remission and she is doing well.
Even though she is new to the art world she is being noticed and is displaying her work in a few galleries and other locations in Colorado.
