Shirley is originally from Hawaii, but has lived in Colorado since 1971 and loves the change of seasons, mountain scenery and gorgeous wild flowers.
As a former Medical Technologist, she has found her art work was a welcome relief from the stress of the hospital scene.
Though devoted to watercolor, she also enjoys drawing and all other media, and while her style tends toward realism, her goal is to "loosen up".
After retiring, her travels with her husband and 2 dogs in their RV has brought opportunities for AMAZING photographs !
Without any formal art classes in school or college, she has attended many demos and workshops presented in the Denver area and recently attended a fun and inspirational 4-day workshop with Arizona artist Betty Carr in Cedar City , Utah.
While open to all new techniques, she believes it is important to occasionally "get back to the basics".
A long time member of the Wheat Ridge Art League, Shirley has served as program co-chairman for several years in the 90's and then again for the past 4-5 years. She also finds herself serving as the "unofficial photographer" and submits articles of the demos and workshops to the newsletter and website.
She is also a member of the Arvada Fine Art Guild and has her work showing at the Arvada Methodist Church, Infinitus Pizza, Wheat Ridge Active Adult Center, Eggshell Restaurant, and has received awards for entries in the Wheat Ridge Carnation Festival and Echter's Greenhouse Holiday Shows.
